1. Check Keyword Popularity
Write about thing that people are interested in. To help decide this, conduct keyword searches using the keyword tool in a Google AdWords account. It’s free to set this up.
2. Select a Keyword Phrase
This phrase should be 2 or 3 words that describes the main idea around which your site is organized.
3. Select Keywords Relevant To Content
Select one keyword phrase per page and optimize that page to that particular keyword phrase. Keywords should be relevant to page content. Avoid the use of overly broad terms.
4. Use Keyword Phrase ins Titles, Subtitles, and Headlines
5. Use the Keyword Phrases In The Content Body.
Use the keyword phrase twice in the first paragraph of a post, and as many times as would be reasonable in the first few hundred words of an article or blog post. Be careful not to use this phrase excessively or search engines might perceive it as spamming.
6. Use the Keyword Phrase In And Around Link Text.
Search engines consider links as more important than text so label links that include the chosen keyword phrase. Text surrounding links is also weighted more heavily than other page copy, so try to include it around page links.
7. Use Keyword Phrases with Images
Image searches on search engines also can drive a lot of traffic so be sure that image files, alt tags, and captions, include chosen keyword phrases.
8. Avoid Using Block Quotes
Some say Google ignores text within block quotes. Until there is more certainty on this, the recommendation is that block quotes are used sparingly if at all.
9. Do Not Stuff Content with Keywords
Keyword stuffing, or, the excessive use of the same keywords over and over is considered spam. This practice is not tolerated and search engines will ban sites that employ such tactics.
10. Continually Work On Content
As a Google employee once said to me when my page rank (PR) was zero, Google is a content-loving engine. Keep adding to and improving upon your content. When it comes to content, there is no there, there. Got it?
BONUS TIP: Use a robots.txt file.
In your favorite text editor type the following text between the quotes: “User-agent: *
Allow: /”, save this as “robots.txt” and upload to your site’s root folder. The command in this file will instruct any spider to crawl every page of your site. For additional information, please see: http://tinyurl.com/c5anjq
